The original draft of this email was sent to Washington Post reporter Justin Jouvenal and copied to many of his Post colleagues, other journalists, and D.C.’s mayor, attorney general, police chief and every member of the city council after Jouvenal reported on the sentencing hearing for a 15-year-old girl who pleaded guilty in the recently videotaped carjacking and murder of a 66-year-old delivery driver.
Dear Justin,
It would seem the fatherlessly murderous girl sentenced to juvenile confinement for no more than six years for her role in the death of Mohammad Anwar has been thoroughly indoctrinated by the progressive left’s infantalizing, personal responsibility-eschewing identity politics [“15-year-old sentenced for fatal carjacking,” B1, June 5].
Rather than simply apologize profusely to her victim’s family and assure them she’ll yet try to make something of her life through earnest efforts at rehabilitation, you report that her brief apology emphasized, “No matter how much stuff I’ve been through, I would never intentionally murder someone.”
So, it ain’t really her fault ‘cuz she been through stuff? Or did somebody else effectively force her to taze an old man, steal his car, and speed away and crash it with him hanging on the door frame? She sounds like a lot of excuse-making critical race theorists, many in our Black Lives Matter-loving media and, no doubt, just like the irresponsible buck-passers who failed so miserably in raising her.
If Mayor Bowser, Council Member Allen, Attorney General Racine or Chief Contee thinks more impotent “violence interrupters” and more mental health professionals answering 911 calls is the answer to our epidemic of self-dooming fatherlessness and the mindless violence that flows directly from it, I’ve got a bridge on Alabama Avenue SE to sell them.
