The original draft of this email was sent to Wall Street Journal sportswriter Ben Cohen who reported on Thursday’s unprecedented first-round NBA Playoffs elimination of a LeBron James-led team — in this case the Los Angeles Lakers, who were beaten 4 games to 2 by the up-and-coming Phoenix Suns in a best-of-seven series.
Dear Ben,
Karma’s a bitch. It seems cosmic justice may have taken a hand in eliminating from the NBA Playoffs none other than LeBron James, America’s most visible apologist for the murderous Chinese Communist Party. Perhaps millions of persecuted Uyghers’ prayers for the Suns to rise were answered [” A new First for LeBron James,” A14, June 5].
In any case, as age and groin pulls mount, maybe King James should focus more on the ice tub and winning games and less on hypocritically bad-mouthing the nation that helped turn a fatherless black kid into a billionaire with the freedom to scold critics of China’s soulless dungeon masters.
LeBron and his sychophant sidekick Adam Silver insist that Black Lives Matter. But it’s clear that Yellow Lives Don’t Matter to either of them. So to the extent that the Lakers’ early exit, on the anniversay of the Tiananmen tank massacre no less, costs both of them a little money, I join the Uyghers, Falun Gong, Jimmy Lai, the Hong Kong kids, and all the disappeared Chinese journalists and virologists in enjoying a little schadenfreude. Every other decent human being and small “d” democrat should, too.
