Picking up where Senior Judge Laurence Silberman of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia left off a week ago, must-read Wall Street Journal political columnist Kim Strassel today continues nearly universal criticism of media bias, cleverly updating the roughly 125-year-old, Pulitzer- and Hearst-inspired phrase “yellow journalism“ with “blue journalism.”
In “Yellow Journalism Turns Blue,” Ms. Strassel defends U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R) of Wisconsin from the “recent onslaught” of lies and distortions contained in stories and columns published by the New York Times, Washington Post and other woketivist media outlets that have now shamelessly abandoned all journalistic “standards to work seamlessly with the progressive left against any opposition.”
Speaking of which, Sen. Johnson must stand for reelection next year in the always-up-for-grabs Badger State, and Democrats would desperately love to flip his seat. Thus concerted efforts between the left’s electoral machinery and its reliable maintenance mechanics in the media are already underway.
Ms. Strassel notes that the “Democrat-media establishment” hopes to force the senator’s retirement or otherwise “make him unelectable” next year, and she urges Republicans and the media-consuming public to understand that “[m]uch of the press no longer has a commitment to truth, fairness or honesty.”
